Early 19thC Estate Cupboard, Upcycled.
An early 19thC Estate Cupboard, upcycled with a Florentine influence. This cupboard had been languishing in a barn at a property dating back to the 16thC. It has had historical repairs, the door, door frame and top are oak. The main body is pine and did show a lot of wear and tear so after a recent visit to Florence I decided to stencil the sides and the repaired base to give it a more unique look (with an appearance of age). The oak has been waxed, the sides are painted and stenciled in a harlequin pattern with Farrow and Ball's Railings, Studio Green and Buff (a discontinued colour). The sides have their original cast iron handles and I have added antique cast iron castors to raise it off the ground. The pine plank back I have cleaned and waxed. An estate cupboard was used as a filing cabinet for documents relating to the collecting of rents, taxes and dues from tenants. As this one is small and had carrying handles it was possibly taken around by horse and cart to the tenants.
Condition... First of all this is a slightly wonky cupboard and slightly narrower on side than the other! Signs of historical repairs. Signs of old worm that I have re-treated to ensure it's deceased. Oak in good condition with signs of use ie ink stains and slight marks. A new floor has been added to the intertior due to histprical damage. This has also been stenciled to blend in with the main cupboard. The interior and exterior has been waxed. The door closes with a twisting knob/lock. There is no key. Please study the pictures and video for more details.
